Russia Growing Export Destination for Fresh Israeli Potatoes

Fresh Israeli potatoes becoming more common in Russian markets

Israeli exports of fresh potatoes have averaged between 200 and 250 thousand tons per year in the last years. The majority of exports have commonly been to the European Union and the United Kingdom. However, the Russian market gained significant momentum as a destination for Israeli fresh potatoes in 2013/14. The increase was due to more competitive prices compared to European potatoes during the spring. Israel plants 16,500 hectares with a total production of about 625,000 tons, of which 43% to the local fresh market, nearly 40% are exported, 13% is
delivered to the industry, and the remaining 4% used as seed potatoes. Local consumption of fresh potatoes per capita is 40 kgs.
